Mind Over Matter

“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” – Marcus Aurelius

It is amazing how easy it is to fall into a victim mindset when life throws curves our way. Many people allow one difficult moment in their lives to dictate the rest of their life. They don’t see this as an opportunity to learn from the situation, but instead see it as a time to whine and complain about how unfair life is. Now it is not wrong to have feelings, after all we are all human. However, it becomes a problem when we allow that situation to alter our future, by not allowing us to move on with our lives. It is essential that we take control of our minds by carefully analyzing what we feed our mind and what we decide to act upon.

We do not have control of what happens around us, or what life throws our way, however we do have the control to decide whether we allow that situation to stop us or to launch us into the next level of our lives. So remember to fill your mind with positive things, and to always learn from every situation in order to live a life full of peace and joy in spite of what happens around us.

Pride, Not Prejudice

“If you want to be proud of yourself, then do things in which you can take pride.” -Karen Horney

As we go through life we tend to take on things that we never expected to face. Sure many times life throws those random things our way, but for the most part I think we deal with the consequences of our actions. So we must always remember to never lose sight of what makes you feel alive, joyful and full of purpose and accomplishment. It’s those things that will keep us on track, that will give you the ability to push through even when you have no energy left. Therefore always do those things that make you proud of yourself, stop living for others and start living for you. This is a new year for you to embark on that journey to find yourself if you haven’t, or to simply get back on that journey if you’ve wandered off. Live to fulfill the purpose for your life.

Will & Hope

“The only thing that stands between you and your dream is the will to try and the belief that it is actually possible.” – Joel Brown

As the year progresses we must not allow the possible distractions or obstacles we might face to dissipate our will to try and our hope in the possibility of seeing our dreams and goals become a reality. It would be easy to simply give up when things get tough, and to justify our decision by accepting our circumstances and failures, but we must never forget that we alone have the power to continue in spite of our circumstances and failures. We must not allow life to dictate our future, but instead we must learn from our mistakes, develop the discipline necessary to see our dreams become a reality, and we must never forget the reason and purpose of why we are pushing through.

New Year, New Mindset

“Destiny is no matter of chance. It is a matter of choice: It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” – William Jennings Bryan

As the new year unfolds, it has somehow become a yearly ritual to set goals and plan the whole year. However somewhere along the way we lose sight of those goals, or are simply defeated or distracted by the things life throws our way.

As I meditated on the quote above, it became clear how often we fall into the trends without actually thinking if what we are embarking on is something we really want or if it’s simply an expectation set by society or our loved ones. In order to truly advance in life we must always be aware of the choices we make and must be prepared to paddle through until we see those goals and dreams fulfilled. Things are not going to happen on their own, sure we might get lucky every now and then when things go as planned but if we are to be honest with ourselves, we must be ready to fail along the way, and must be willing to be persistent until the end.

Take this time to plan ahead, dream big, set realistic and measurable goals that will feed your soul and allow you to finish strong.
